Weekly Mind Dump: Outreach & Prayer Requests

✪ We had church wide outreach on Sunday. It was one of the churches first time for this. Basically, after church on Sunday morning, many of us ate together and then broke up into teams and went walking around town inviting people to our church. We used invitation cards that had our church info on the front and an explanation of the gospel on the back. Then we did the same thing that evening for the other church.

✪ A girl who has come to church for several weeks wrote on her connection card: “God if you are real, please show your power to me.” Please pray for her, that she will see the power in the gospel and that God will save her!

✪ One of our Sunday school teachers received a text from his dad (who lives in another city) that said he wanted to become a Christian. Please pray for him, that he will be born again!

✪ Our yokefellows from our home church are coming to China! They leave on Thursday this week and will be here for about three weeks. Please pray for safe traveling for them!

✪ We are still looking for a place to rent and for a vehicle to drive. Please pray that we can have these settled before our return at the end of the month.

✪ It looks like we might have a problem with Eastern lightning or another cult. Two people who have come occasionally made us think they might be coming for the wrong reasons. Hopefully, we will find our more answers this week. Pray they will listen to the truth and not do anything to the church since they know we will be leaving for a short time.

✪ My health is doing better than this time last week. Pray for my wife as she is uncomfortable and in a lot of pain from being pregnant this time around.

✪ Recently Read: Christian Beliefs: Twenty Basics Every Christian Should Know – This was a helpful book to read as reference when studying over the different topics in my personal study. Some of the areas seemed lacking but I guess he makes up for it in his two larger books of the same. The book seems aimed at helping Christians who heard things all their lives put what they heard into more of a structure that is easy to understand and show some practical applications. I didn’t agree with everything and thought the outline was weird but the overall organization of verses with explanation was helpful. From the book: “All the words in the Bible are God’s words. Therefore, to disbelieve or disobey them is to disbelieve or disobey God himself.” [1]

✪ Recently Read: View From the Top: An Inside Look at How People in Power See and Shape the World – I enjoyed this book on leadership. It is based on 10 years of research. The author takes all of his research and puts it together to help us get a “behind the scenes” look at some of the world’s most powerful leaders. The book gives you an interesting look at “Platinum Leaders” and reveals many helpful truths brought to the forefront by the study. As you are reading the book you feel like you are constantly picking up little gold nuggets. From the book: “For young leaders, mentoring is one of the best ways to acclimate to a new network of social peers, gaining social capital as they rise. A banking executive told me, “When you have a mentor, you’re able to take that risk at a little younger age because [your mentor] is looking out for you. And so it allows you to be … more confident before your age.” [2]

✪ Recently Read: Who Do You Think You Are?: Finding Your True Identity in Christ – Understanding who we are “in Christ” is life changing. The author does a great job at helping the reader discover these truths and give real life examples of people’s lives who were changed once they realized them. I enjoyed the book and it helped me think through the subject at hand. From the book: “You aren’t what’s been done to you but what Jesus has done for you. You aren’t what you do but what Jesus has done. What you do doesn’t determine who you are. Rather, who you are in Christ determines what you do.” [3]
