July 2021 Prayer Letter
Stories of God at Work | Online Sunday School, Two Saved
As we move into July, the level 3 “semi-lockdown” and ban on religious activities and gatherings due to the pandemic continues. Last month, we reported that the church plant quickly pivoted to online for our Sunday morning services. My wife and another Sunday school teacher from the church have made Sunday school available to the children by recording a video to watch online. This past Monday, as my wife was delivering Sunday school craft supplies and goodies to the apartments of our church families for them to do and enjoy, she was greeted by two excited children who wanted to put their faith in Jesus after watching the online videos—for five weeks now! Here is how she tells the story:
While I was out doing my Sunday School visitation this Monday evening, these two little ones met me outside their complex, jumping with excitement, saying, “Teacher, we want to be saved!” I spent quite a while talking over the truths we have been studying with them outside on the sidewalk; it was clear that they understood and were ready to make this decision for Christ. After our talk, they both said their own special prayers asking God to forgive them of their sins and come into their hearts and save them. What an encouragement it was for me to be with them and witness God’s working in their little hearts! When it was time for me to go, I hugged them real tight and told them I loved them, and then the sweet little boy walked away shouting, “Yay! I’m saved!” While this shutdown has been discouraging at times, seeing God use our online Sunday School lessons to work in the hearts of so many little ones has been an incredible blessing!
Praise the Lord that they have been making sure to share a clear presentation of the gospel at the end of each online lesson. Because our services are online only right now, most of the adults that are tuning in are already believers, so the unbelievers that we have a chance to share the gospel with are the children within our homes. Praise the Lord that these two little ones from the church plant have been paying such close attention. (Note: Their mom was saved last year.)
Church Plant Update | Continued Prayers…
The pandemic situation in Taiwan continues to improve from what it was about a month ago with very minimal spread, especially when compared to other places around the world in such dire situations. The level 3 semi-lockdown seems overcautious, but this excessively cautious attitude has allowed the island to keep the situation under control. Although the question is to be asked, like many places around the world, “At what cost?”—and this is still unanswered for Taiwan. Please pray for us to minister to those who will undoubtedly have financial, physical, mental, and emotional hardships through this trying time. Also, pray as we long to assemble physically in person again as a local church.
We labor abundantly by the grace of God and for the glory of God—the One who loves us more than we ever dreamed, even though we are more sinful than we ever imagined. Furthermore, we don’t travel on this amazing journey without the help of God’s people. Thank you for giving, praying, following, serving, and being a part of our “China Ministry” team. We are especially fond of you! Let us continue pressing forward toward the mark and keep fighting the good fight. May we strive every day to know Jesus, be happy in Him, and make Him known!
In His Joyful Service,
