I lost about 23 lbs in the last three months and the Chinese made me do it! Okay, well maybe the didn’t make me do, but they definitely encouraged it! A person only has to be told they are fat so many times before they realize they are fat.
I started dieting at the beginning of May, weighing in at 191.8 lb. and getting to my low this month of 168.6 lb.
You might be thinking that it is natural to loose weight when you move to a country on the other side of the world where you are new to their culture and food, but that didn’t happen for me. There are two problems:
1) My wife is an awesome cook and I was proof of it!
2) Chinese food is good! Chinese food is cheap! And Chinese food isn’t that healthy. For example, one of the dishes here consist of pork wrapped in fat, battered, deep fried and then smothered in sweet and sour sauce.
So how do the Chinese stay so skinny? Well, they just don’t eat as much as I do.
With the short-term missions team coming this week, I am sure that I will gain some of it back (especially after we visit a couple American restaurants in Beijing next week). Then I will probably diet some more, for by Chinese standards I am still a little fat (one of the guys in the church bought me a shirt in the biggest size available 2XL and yet it was still to small).
Are you dieting too?
